My wife really digs the Baja.

The key is finding one that's a solid color

As long as the rebuilt title doesn’t bother you, NP. I’ve always liked the two tone thing subaru had going on... Used to have a 97 outback myself. Good car.

I'm shocked at how much bajas are going for. The auto, base non-turbos are all north of 10k around here, regardless of mileage

I’d rather have a wagon.

I would be warry of the rebuilt title. It would need a very thorough pre- purchase inspection. I wouldn’t want to be out on a forest service road somewhere and have bad welds fail because of a poor quality rebuild.

I’m hella biased so I give the edge to the turbo manual Outbacks, but I do like a good turbo Baja

Neighbor kid up the street has his first set of wheels; a light-blue-over-silver Impreza hatchback.

You know it’s mostly the PNW Subaru tax and the PNW “any running car you could commute in is worth at least $4k” tax. I’m still baffled about what drives used car prices here, since you could often obtain a similar example that has only been subjected to sun for half the price or less in the greater Los Angeles area...

Heck, even Portland's used car market seems better than here. I’ve also noticed Covid-19 and general economy awfulness has done absolutely nothing to bring prices down...

I wanted to buy one of these back in 2010 for not much more than that, but my (now ex) wife told me they were “stupid” and “ugly”. Part of the reason she’s my ex.

Disagree.
Can you sleep in it? Not any more than you can in any other sedan. But an Outback? Hell yeah.
Can you put skis in it? Nope, hence the roof box. Which, if you put on the Outback, you could then sleep in the car AND have your skis with you.
Can you put bikes in the back? Not really, no. Kinda, but really, yo u need a rack. See earlier comment about Outback.
Can you put dogs in the back? Sure, if it’s not raining or cold and if you don’t care about their safety. Outback.
Can you carry stuff back there that you don’t mind getting wet when it rains, like, bags for a weekend trip or even a simple overnight? Or things you don’t want stolen if you park anywhere?
Outback. Or small J apanese pickup. Pick one.

True, and good point. I don’t understand the high prices in Seattle, but it’s definitely inflated everywhere up here...
